Five Minute Friday: Favorite

Lyrics of the song, “My favorite things,” from the movie, The Sound of Music, were the first things that came to mind in response to today’s prompt, “Favorite.” “Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens. Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens. Brown paper packages tied up with strings … Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes (Just the thought of this image makes me smile). Silver white winters that melt into springs (How I appreciate the fact that hard seasons have an end point. How I appreciate the promise of spring).

I thought of these lyrics and I also think of my favorite things, at least some of them.

Long, meandering conversations with a sibling over a meal.

A well brewed cup of tea.

Warm towels just out of the dryer.

Freshly pressed, white cotton napkins, folded just so.

Sky portraits, especially in the early morning, declaring His glory.

A well written book.

A truth revealed as I read His Word.

A child’s laughter or smile.

The reminder in Philippians 2:13 – He is working in me giving me the desire and ability to do what please Him.

These are a few of my favorite things.
