I noticed the airplane as it headed in the direction of the airport near my workplace. It’s size, weight, and capacity were unchanged from the moment it left the airstrip of an airport that was its departure point, to the moment I noticed it flying above. But against the expanse of the sky, the airplane resembled a child’s toy. Context alters perspective.

This Advent season as we prepare our hearts to celebrate the birth of our Savior, each day moving us closer to December 25th, I wonder, what is the context for my life? What is the context of your life? Against what backdrop am I, are you viewing that circumstance which is a source of anguish? The unanswered prayer? Our deepest longing? Your greatest joy? The event that fills you with anticipation? Or dread? Context gives perspective.

May the faithfulness of our God who kept His promise to redeem us, be the context within which we frame our lives. All parts of it. In all seasons.

Five Minute Friday: Loyal

Loyal (1)

Loyal – Giving or showing firm and constant support or allegiance to a person or institution. Synonyms – faithful, true, devoted, constant, steadfast, dependable, reliable, trusted, trustworthy, unchanging, unwavering, unswerving, dedicated, committed.

Faithful – Remaining loyal and steadfast.
Synonyms – loyal, constant, true, devoted, unswerving, unwavering, steadfast, dedicated, committed.

My initial thoughts in response to this prompt were about man being loyal to God. But as I reflected on the word and reviewed some of its synonyms, I was arrested by this truth, “God is loyal. God is loyal to us. God is faithful. God is faithful to us. Even when we are disloyal. Even when we are unfaithful.” (End of 5 minutes).

This truth is clearly stated in 2 Timothy 2:13 (AMP), “If we are faithless, He remains faithful [true to His word and His righteous character], for He cannot deny Himself.” This truth is reiterated from Genesis to Revelation. “God is loyal. God is loyal to us. God is faithful. God is faithful to us. Even when we are disloyal. Even when we are unfaithful.”

Monday Vitamins: His Faithfulness

His faithfulness

“Trust in the Lord, and do good;
Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness.”
(Psalm 37:3, NKJV)

Also, in honor of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who in some ways, I believe, exemplified Psalm 37:3, I want to share a quote from his, Letter from Birmingham Jail.

“The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy. The true neighbor will risk his position, his prestige, and even his life for the welfare of others.”
