Day 16: Avoid

Avoidance is one of the hallmarks of anxiety. It is a human tendency to avoid what makes us anxious. However, for the child of God there is a counter-move for avoidance and it is rooted in the faithfulness and power of our God and Father. He enables us to face that which we would rather avoid.

He is the same God who was with Daniel in the lion’s den. The same God who helped Daniel to respond to the king’s frantic question, “Daniel, servant of the living God has your God, whom you serve continually, been able to deliver you from the lions?” with, “O king, live forever! My God sent His angel and shut the lions’ mouths, so that they have not hurt me, because I was found innocent before Him….” (Daniel 6:20-22, NKJV). He is the same God who was with the three Hebrew men in the fiery furnace and enabled them to walk about in what was designed to destroy them, AND leave that place without the smell of fire on them (Daniel 3:8-27, NKJV). He is with you to help you face what you would prefer to avoid.

This post is for Day 16 of the 31 Days of Five Minute Free Writes Writing Challenge. The theme of my series is, “Season,” based on the definition, “make (wood) suitable for use as timber by adjusting its moisture content to that of the environment in which it will be used.” Please click here to find the Table of Contents and links to other posts in the series.
