Introduction and Day 8
Peace:*
- a state of tranquility or quiet: as, a) freedom from civil disturbance; b) a state of security or order within a community provided for by law or custom
- freedom from disquieting or oppressive thoughts or emotions
- harmony in personal relations
- a) a state or period of mutual concord between governments; b) a pact or agreement to end hostilities between those who have been at war or in a state of enmity
These definitions of peace highlight that peace falls into two broad categories: intrapersonal peace (inner peace); and interpersonal peace (between individuals and broader communities locally, state wide, nationally, and between nations).
Jesus Christ, the Messiah, the Word made flesh is the Prince of Peace. All forms of peace.
For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:6, NKJV)
I know I have been guilty of limiting His domain as the Prince of Peace to intrapersonal peace and peace between individuals. Perhaps you are guilty of this misperception also. But He is the Prince of all peace. All peace.
This second week of Advent, I will focus on peace primarily through sharing Scripture verses about peace. Through His written Word, we have the assurance that the Prince of Peace wants us to have His peace in all circumstances and makes it possible for us to do so.
Prayer
Father, there is so much pain, devastation, hopelessness, and despair in our world. And even during this Advent season, there can be much of the same within us. But it is Your desire that we know Your peace in all situations and all seasons of life. As we prepare to celebrate the birth of Jesus, our Savior, give us the desire and the ability to turn from the hustle and distractions around us and focus on You, so that we may experience Your peace. In Jesus Name.
