Five Minute Friday: Comfort

It can come in a touch.
In a smile.
In a card.
In a word.
In a memory of being loved,

It can come in a hug.
A rub on the back.
A two handed cupping of the cheek.
A whispered hush
offered in response
to a wail of fear
in the dark.
A reminder that Mom or Dad is here and near.
In a hand being held
when it reaches out.

It can come through various medium.
But all comfort that comes without conditions,
without strings.
And brings peace,
and soothes,
and calms,
and offers true solace,
has only one Source –
The God of all comfort.
For He comforts us
in all sorrows and
then  makes us vessels,
conduits of His comfort.

  1. “Comfort comes without conditions.”

Thank you for this. Several years ago I was going through a very dark, trying time. A friend came over with the stated mission to soothe me, yet she ended up crying and asking why I hadn’t told her the intricate details of my struggle. I will never forget the shock of that. I, who needed comfort, somehow had to comfort her. It was a good lesson to expect nothing from those who need me to hold their hands and listen.

  2. Comfort…”has only one Source –
    The God of all comfort.”
My heart aches for those who do not know the Source. While God is gracious in giving goodness too all, those that do not connect to him are without the deep comfort only God can provide.
Yet again, your words are beautiful

  3. God is indeed “gracious in giving goodness to all,” and it is sad that some face life’s challenges without the “deep comfort” only He can provide. Thanks for reading the post and sharing your thoughts, Cheryl. Blessings.
