Sky

rainbow-3

A rainbow in the sky. It has not yet become a commonplace sight to me and I pray it never will. A rainbow in the sky. It was given by God as a sign, a sign of His solemn promise to Noah, his sons, and every living creature who came out of the ark, and to everyone who would live after them. It was the sign of His solemn promise that He would never again allow floodwaters to destroy all life. And He has kept His promise.

But there is another promise God made which predated and is of greater significance that His promise to never again destroy all life through  floodwaters. This promise was made to Adam and Eve, and through them to all mankind. It was His promise to redeem us, first voiced in Genesis 3:15.

And the signs of His promise were repeated in all the books of the Old Testament until its fulfillment in the New. Jesus Himself mentioned one of these when he told Nicodemus, “As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up.” And Jesus’ death is the ultimate demonstration of God’s love for us as stated in John 3:16 and Romans 5:8. The next time you see a rainbow in the sky may you also be reminded that He kept His promise to redeem us and will keep every promise He has ever made to you.
