I am joining Kate Motaung and other members of the encouraging and courageous Five Minute Friday community for our weekly writing adventure. To learn more about Five Minute Friday, please click here. This week’s prompt is “Decide.”
Decisions! Decisions! Decisions! There is no avoiding them. We all face them.
Inherent in the process of deciding is choice. We cannot ever refuse to choose because even when we refuse to make a decision, we have chosen to not choose. This can be scary at times, isn’t it?
Some decisions may seem insignificant, for example, what color to paint my nails or even my door. I say insignificant because the outcome can be altered if I do not like it. Other decisions, however, are life altering and those are the ones which can leave us paralyzed because we do not want to make the wrong choice.
Making major decisions do have the ability to make us very anxious. But I am reminded of Philippians 4:6-7 and its promise – “Do not be anxious or worried about anything, but in everything [every circumstance and situation] by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, continue to make your [specific] requests know to God. And the peace of God [that peace which reassures the heart, that peace] which transcends all understanding [that peace which] stands guard over your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus [s yours]. And also of James 1:5
“If any of you lacks wisdom [to guide him though a decision or circumstance], he is to ask of [our benevolent] God, who gives to everyone generously and without rebuke or blame, and it will be given to him.” Such comfort and reassurance are found in these verses. I am thankful that I never have to make any major decision on my own. And neither do you. Our Father beckons us, invites us to come to Him with all things, big and small, and find the help we need to make the decisions which honor Him.
