Joining Kate Motaung and other courageous writers who are part of the Five Minute Friday Community. Today’s prompt is “Dwell.”
Perhaps not surprisingly, the first meaning of “dwell” which came to mind in response to today’s prompt was “to reside,” and with it, the first verse of Psalm 91: “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High, shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” But what I wanted to focus on today is another meaning of “dwell,” that is “to keep the attention directed.”
What do I give most of my attention to in any given day, I wondered. What do you? What do we dwell on?
Isaiah*, the prophet notes, “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.” Then he admonishes, encourages us to, “Trust in the LORD forever, For in YAH, the LORD, is everlasting strength.” These words are such a blessing. We can, with His help, make the decision moment by moment to keep our minds stayed on Him. We can choose to keep our attention directed on Him. We can choose to dwell on Him.
There are so many things vying for our attention every day. Some are mere distractions while others are important; however, even the act of distinguishing between the two, is facilitated when we keep our attention on Him.
