Five Minute Friday: Ten

I am joining Kate Motaung and a group of courageous writers for Five Minute Friday. The prompt is “Ten.” To learn more about Five Minute Friday (and perhaps join us?) click here.

She is one of ten daughters born in a family. The last one to be exact. And there are have been times throughout her life when she has felt lost in the numbers and wondered whether her life matters.

I say to her, “Dear heart, you matter to Him. The One who made every nationality from one man to live over the whole earth and determined their appointed times and the boundaries of the places where they live, is the same One who numbers the hairs on your head. The same One who knit you together in your mother’s womb. The same One who had all the days ordained for you written and planned before one of them even began.

It is not by chance that you are where you are in your family. Your birth order is not a mistake. With the birth of each child, a family changes. It is true that you were not born into the same family as each of your siblings and your arrival changed your family again. You matter. The gifts He placed within you matter. Develop them. Use them, daughter number ten. Seek to know, love, and follow Him with your whole heart. He knows your name and is perfecting all that concerns you. Be at peace where you are.”

  1. What a great perspective to have on birth order and the way we fit into families. I was a middle child growing up (#4 of 6), and I currently have 6 with one on the way. Each child has a different personality, a different place in the numbers, and a different perspective based on where they are at in the family. I love seeing how each of them bloom based on where God put them as well as the gifts they received to use in life. Creation is a beautiful thing! Thank you so much for your wisdom today!
