I attended a spiritual retreat recently and, throughout the grounds, there were seating areas, some tucked away off the beaten paths and others on the paths.
They reminded me of Psalms 139:1-3 (Living Bible).
“O Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me. You know when I sit or stand. When far away you know my every thought. You chart the path ahead of me and tell me where to stop and rest. Every moment you know where I am. ” (Emphasis added)
In the busyness of life, we sometimes rob ourselves of the rest we need both spiritually and physically. Mark 6 tells the story of Jesus sending out the Twelve disciples to minister to others. We are told that they went out and preached repentance, drove out demons, and healed many sick people. They returned and reported to Jesus what they had done and said. Mark notes, “Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, He said to them, ‘Come with Me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.” (Emphasis added). He issues the same invitation to us. May we better heed His invitation this week.
