Five Minute Friday: Favorite

Lyrics of the song, “My favorite things,” from the movie, The Sound of Music, were the first things that came to mind in response to today’s prompt, “Favorite.” “Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens. Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens. Brown paper packages tied up with strings … Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes (Just the thought of this image makes me smile). Silver white winters that melt into springs (How I appreciate the fact that hard seasons have an end point. How I appreciate the promise of spring).

I thought of these lyrics and I also think of my favorite things, at least some of them.

Long, meandering conversations with a sibling over a meal.

A well brewed cup of tea.

Warm towels just out of the dryer.

Freshly pressed, white cotton napkins, folded just so.

Sky portraits, especially in the early morning, declaring His glory.

A well written book.

A truth revealed as I read His Word.

A child’s laughter or smile.

The reminder in Philippians 2:13 – He is working in me giving me the desire and ability to do what please Him.

These are a few of my favorite things.

  1. hi E, i see we were on the same mental track when we wrote our posts. that is where the similarity ends. what a beautiful writer! i’m sad i haven’t bumped into you before on FMF.

when i read your about page, i guessed that you might be from one of the caribbean islands. the thing that gave you away? you love of fried plantains:) we lived in jamaica for 7 years and 2 or our 3 daughters were born there. our first daughter might as well have been, she lived there from the time she was 2 months old until she was 6. but that was in the 1970’s.

during most of the 1980’s we lived in miami…sort of an extension of the caribbean:)

today, i’m your next door neighbor at FMF. i love your favs. so many of them are mine as well. i was just on another track in my thoughts when i wrote.

  2. Loved your favorites – warm towels out of the dryer, oh yes! This word prompt has been such a fun way to get to know more about each others. Sound of Music is definitely getting some props this week. Blessings to you, E!

  3. I lots that scripture from Philippians. It seems hopeful to think that he is working within me to have desire and ability to please him. We share many of the same favorite things.
