Five Minute Friday: Finish

Linking up with Lisa-Jo Baker and friends for Five Minute Friday. The prompt is “Finish.”

Finish. “Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof,” says part of the verse in Ecclesiastes 7. “Better is the end of a thing…” “Better is the end of a thing…” I cannot remember the circumstances under which I learned the verse but it has stuck with me over the years. “Better is the end of a thing…”

So many starts but not enough finishes. Or sometimes the endings or finishes are not what was expected. “Better is the end of a thing…”

It takes perseverance to finish. It takes patience to finish. It takes grace to finish.

Life is a marathon, not a sprint and there are so many times and reasons that encourage, entice (?) us to give up. Whispers that aborted endings will not matter. That they will be understood. But we can press on as we lean on Him and not ourselves. We can take moments to be still and have Him renew our strength. “Better is the end of a thing…” and with His help, we can finish well.

  1. Visiting back from FMF. This seemed to mesh well with mine. Because although I need to “be finished” with certain things, others I need to push through and actually persevere through the hard stuff. And really, leaning into grace is part of being kind to myself. Great verse. Great reminder!

    • It is wonderful that He helps us distinguish between the things we need to be finished with and those we need to push through. Thanks for your visit.
